Can you imagine celebrating the upcoming end of the biosphere?

Imagine contemplating the destruction of all the plants, animals, people, and things that we care about – And after that, still being self excited about your book launch? It doesn't make a lot of sense right?

Ray Kurzweil correctly predicted and warned of the ascendence of thinking machines decades in advance (via simple trend extrapolation), but also serves as a warning about the human ego and its travails. I helped produce a conference about the Singularity in my 20's with him. Ray sent me this signed note along with his latest book, which I received while I was out picking flowers. To my understanding, Ray genuinely believes that this event may help him and others avoid dying, and is therefore a reason for celebration.

Being excited about a Singularity is to misunderstand, fundamentally what a singularity is. This era will require clear thinking heroes, coordination and collaboration on an unprecedented level to produce an outcome that reflects our values. A future without humans and flowers, is not a future we want. We will have to create and implement a vision of what we do want that is more survivable than a singularity.
